My Week In Beers 08.05.23
Currently typing this at Sydney Airport waiting for our flight that will take Katie and I out of the country for four and a half months. I ate two McMuffins because my tummy wasn’t adequately disrupted enough after the first.
Packing for four and a half months is hard, as is packing up the space we were living in, especially when your back decides it’s strained for no reason other than you tried to reach for some soap in the shower while being 31.
With all this in mind I went easy on the beers this week, choosing only to have a few favourites with friends.
On Tuesday night I tried this trilogy of beers from Sauce Brewing that I was writing up for Crafty Pint. My favourite was definitely the IIPA, the other two were way too infused with their respective spirits for me to enjoy. Pretty sure I had a bad night on brown spirits in uni and now whenever I get a whiff it makes me feel like I’m going to vomit up a dining hall lasagne I ate 13 years ago. Still, it was interesting to taste the difference between the two.
On Wednesday I reviewed Mort’s Gold by Bentspoke Brewing. I love their beers but this was weak water that tasted vaguely of honey. I lost my temper during the review. Think I gave it 2/10, I think this one was a bit past it’s due by date and my bottleo shouldn’t have been selling it.
Thursday I made a video where I did some experiments on beer (coming soon) and I had to vouch for the quality of the lager which was by Two Mates in Lismore. It was good, sweet and nice, my grandpa who only drinks Tooheys or Boags liked it although remarked he couldn’t drink more than one.
For my Sunday Stout Sesh I had a Coopers Extra Best Stout because I realised I’d never had one and I thought it would be good if my last beer review in Australia for a bit was an Aussie beer. I gave it 7/10.
Lastly, on Monday night (technically the next week but whatever) I had a Philter Red Sessions Ale and Mountain Culture Scenic Route Sessions Hazy at The Erko for some hastily arrange farewell drinks. I’ve reviewed the Philter Sessions Red before and think it’s a unique and special beer worthy of fanfare, praise and sneaking into the footy. The Mountain Culture one tastes like a hazy beer by Mountain Culture. It’s nice, it’s lovely, it’s part of the furniture. It was a liquid good bye to my two homes, Sydney’s inner west and the Blue Mountains.
